For a started, we're trying to figure out how to best use this platform for thing-a-day. Any comments or thoughts about how we should be using Posterous are very much welcome. Is the current setup the best?

I have only used Posterous for t-a-d so I don't know what other options there are, but I know I get totally overwhelmed by the volume of posts and it's not as easy as I'd like to only follow certain users.

Posterous is not well set up to handle a creative flow of uploads- linking to them to show people who aren't taking part in thing a day- commenting on others work and even finding specific work...I chave done thing a day for a few years now, and I thought last years was the most isolating...I tried following people I remembered from previous years, and commenting on their posts but could only find someone by generally clicking through the big general list. I did a lot less commenting and recieved far fewer comments, i believe because of the clunkiness of the site's layout (hopefully not the lackluster character of my posts) The split between posting to posterous and thing-a-day, on posterous never made sense or seemed to work smoothly...I spent too much time trying to navigate and negotiate with posterous. I would hope some of those kinks are worked out this year. The project, thing-a-day is one I look forward to participating in.

Dear David, Thanks for the feedback. Is there a year that you remember worked better for you? Would love to hear more.

I'm not David but I agree with everything he said. I was not very active on the site in 2011 so I didn't think I could critique fairly. For me, 2009 was very good: it was a lot easier to follow an individual (I seem to recall being able to subscribe to a person's feed? Or am I confusing this with another site?) and if I am recalling correctly it was easier to follow tags for project types but still within the daily format (like to search for knitting on the 15th). t-a-d is partly a victim of its own success in terms of numbers but if I can't interact with people and have some kind of personal relationship, it's just another pile of images like Flickr or Pinterest and not interesting for me.

I found Posterous difficult. I liked the early versions of thing a day where it was easy to "follow" someone. all said I can wait for it to start!

i thought wordpress worked well b/c you could follow specific people easily. that was tad 2, i think? i haven't used tumblr before, but i hear good things about it. not sure if it would work for tad, but maybe a possibility?

I agree with David and Juliann that TaD on posterous has been much less of a community thing than it was on WordPress. On the other hand, WordPress struggled under the load in 2009 (which is why I think it was moved to Posterous in 2010).

Another factor that might contribute to TaD seeming less close-knit is just that there are so many particpants and it is easy to swamped by hundreds of posts each day.

I'm also willing to help (if I can).

Looking forward to TaD 2012. I'd like to weigh in on Posterous though: had real difficulty with Posterous last year. Our internet connection isn't very good and I had real difficulty getting it to load. I linked it up with my Facebook account and a post by someone else got broadcast as if I had done it - that was very worrisome. I also couldn't get posterous to stop sending me update email even though I turned them off.

I'm happy to help as well. I'd second (or third) the WordPress vote from 2009. I noticed less community, specifically difficulty keeping up with other folks's creations as well as vastly less interaction with others. Which, in many ways, is what makes Things-a-Day so great. Looking forward to it!

I agree too, I did like the nagivation better before Posterous....it just seemed more personal...easy to use, and follow.

I, too, hope it's going to run. I've decided to go ahead anyway! I'm planning to continue where I left off last year, with more Odd Fellows. I've also created a blogger space for them, just in case there's no other home.

I can't wait to see what people do this year!

So glad this discussion is going... Posted similar sentiments to last year's (I'd include a link, but I'd have to dig to find it ;) I echo that 2009 on WP was easier for finding tags, participants and posts. I was feeling a faded sense of community and was still debating doing it this year, but hearing that people were just posting less because it was hard to use gives me some hope.

On another note, anyone near SFO/RDU wanna get together for some group sprints? Anyone out there interested in a TAD swap?

I'm near RDU, in Cary. Don't know if I am going to be in town all month but I'd love to get together with people in the area :)

I know the general feeling after 2009 was that WP was not sufficiently robust for TAD but they have made some major improvements. Is anyone able to see whether those improvements would allow a return to that format? Or is there another format that still has the same person-following aspect, perhaps something similar to Pinterest?

Hey everyone, thanks so much for all your feedback. It's great to hear back from you all. I fully agree with what you're saying with regards to community and Posterous – we've been trying to find an easy to put together alternative, or a better use of this platform. I'll post a proposed solution in the next two three days. Sign-up will happen after that. -mouna
